MPG revisited
A few days ago I posted 2008 Most Fuel Efficient Cars. And here is another way of looking at the numbers:
.
Now lets look at it this way; on average we may drive 10,000 miles per year (50% City & 50% Highway), and let's just average out gas at $4/gallon (Current in my city it is $4.69). So the yearly numbers become:
.
Toyota Prius Hybrid / City: 48 mpg / Highway: 45 mpg
Yearly Fuel Cost: $860
Typical Small Car / City: 30 mpg / Highway: 35 mpg
Yearly Fuel Cost: $1,238
Typical Large Car / City: 20 mpg / Highway: 30 mpg
Yearly Fuel Cost: $1,666
Typical Mini-Van / City: 18 mpg / Highway: 25 mpg
Yearly Fuel Cost: $1,911
Typical Large SUV / City: 12 mpg / Highway: 20 mpg
Yearly Fuel Cost: $2,666
With these simple parameters; if you switch from a large SUV to a Toyota Prius, and even if you drive a modest 10,000 miles per year, you'll save about $1,800 per year.
Matt Harding dancing all around the world
Matt was asked, "What the message of the videos?" His reply, "Up to you, I'm just dancing."
You can't not smile when watching this video. Beautiful places and ordinary places, and a guy doing the only move he knows how to do, surrounded by people having fun.

June 20th - Happiest Day of the Year

Happy Happiest Day of the Year! June 20th has been scientific-ishly declared the happiest date on the calendar. Why?
Apparently the feeling of optimism caused by the combination of lighter evenings, the prospect of holidays and memories of childhood summers is at its peak on June 20.
According to the research this has been worked out using the equation O + (N xS) + Cpm/T + He.
O stands for being outdoors and outdoor activity, N is connection with nature, which is in full bloom now, S is socialisation with neighbours and friends, Cpm stands for childhood positive memories, T is the mean temperature which is now usually warm, and He is holiday expected.

Ice on Mars confirmed
There is water ice on Mars within reach of the Mars Phoenix Lander, NASA scientists announced Thursday.
Photographic evidence settles the debate over the nature of the white material seen in photographs sent back by the craft. As seen in lower left of this image, chunks of the ice sublimed (changed directly from solid to gas) over the course of four days, after the lander's digging exposed them.
"Are you ready to celebrate? Well, get ready: We have ICE!!!!! Yes, ICE, *WATER ICE* on Mars! w00t!!! Best day ever!!" the Mars Phoenix Lander tweeted at about 5:15 pm. 6/19/2008

Resigning from Yahoo
Stewart Butterfield, the cofounder of Flickr, has tendered his resignation to Yahoo, as has wife and cofounder Caterina Fake. Flickr was purchased by Yahoo for the tune of $35 million three years ago!
Here is Butterfield's full resignation letter:

Man with a Stick

SAN DIEGO—A man who used several different bent sticks to hit a ball to an area comprised of very short grass surrounding a hole in the ground was praised for his courage Monday after he used a somewhat smaller stick to gently roll the ball into the aforementioned hole in fewer attempts than his competitors. "What guts, what confidence," ESPN commentator Scott Van Pelt said of the man, who was evidently unable to carry his sticks himself, employing someone else to hold the sticks and manipulate the flag sticking out of the hole in the ground while he rolled the ball into it. "You have to be so brave, so self-assured, so strong mentally to [roll a ball into a hole in the ground]. Amazing." The man in question apparently hurt his knee during this activity.
